In the Hazel Wood

One of my favorite places in The Burren, Co. Clare, Ireland. A hazel wood with very big hazel trees (not just bushes), a carpet of fern and in spring wild garlic, a holy well, really a beautiful and calm place.

Loop Head is a peninsula on the west-coast of Ireland at the end of the Shannon Estuary. A wonderful place to sit in the grass and watch the dolphins and the clouds go by.

The Skellig Islands are two rocks in the Atlantic Ocean just a few miles from the Kerry Coast in Ireland. From the seventh century until the twelfth or thirteenth early Christian Monks maintained their live there. Today it is a bird paradise but the monastic buildings can still be visited.

Over many many years this fields were cleared from the stones. The walls protect from the wind and are bounderies for the fields.

My favourite region in Ireland is the Burren. The Burren is a limestone landscape located in the north of Co. Clare. There a large cave systems in the underground and terraced hills and flat pavements with a wide horizon. It's a mixture of barren and fertile, horizontal and vertical, wild and domestic, loneliness and sociability, bare ground and a mixture of flowers unique in the world.

A quiet evening at Ballyryan, Co. Clare, Ireland. The Burren, a limestone region, meets the sea. In spring there's an abundance of flowers. You can find alpine flowers like spring gentian, orchids, mediterranean flowers growing side by side on sea level.

After weeks of very dry weather the first dark clouds arriving from the Atlantic. The light on the sea has a special quality. I enjoy the fast change. Sometimes you can see a spot wandering over land and sea.

Flowering Wild Garlic in Coole Park, Gort

Coole Park in Gort, Co. Galway, Ireland is one of my favourit places in spring. There are abundant flowers of wild garlic and of harebells and beautiful old trees.

The Coole Estate was purchased by Robert Gregory in 1768. It remained with the Gregory family until 1927 when it was sold to the state. Residing there at that time was Lady Augusta Gregory, a dramatist, folklorist and so-founder with W. B. Yeats and Edward Martyn of the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. Coole Park is immortalized by Yeats in his writings and those of her famous guests.
